Today was day of »concepts«

Since January 2006 our marketing is primarily web-based. It is a demanding job to serve all the various platforms in a tiime-depedent way. As soon as you loose track of one of your actions, as soon as marketing measures develop into isolated action they turn to be rather futile or at least less efficient. Actions have to reinforce each other from the various angles and viewpoints. Today we tried to continue weaving our marketing fabric.

Family and the Professional Athlete

My family and I have settled in really well into California, but with my season approaching it gets more difficult and a bigger strain on my family as i spend time away at events and on training camps. In the past it has been relatively easy as we just took the kids with us, but with my oldest daughter, Tahlia, now approaching school age and my youngest Sienna about to start pre-school, the transient lifestyle of a professional triathlete gets more difficult.I am off to Hawaii and Europe in 3 weeks and as a family we have been planning what is the best option for them. We have decided that Emma and the kids will return to Australia for 6 weeks while I am away, and see all our family and friends at home. Emma has such a wonderful group of girlfriends in Australia all of which have children our age. Tahlia talks on the phone often to her friends at home, and when we asked her if she wanted to go home and see them, her face lit up. It really made me see how tough this lifestyle is on my own family and my younger children in particular. Obviously when I am way they miss their father incredibly, but when we we are here in the USA they miss their close friends at home. It is a catch 22 for us as a family and always plays hard on us at this time of the year.  We have made the move as a family to the USA and will buy a home here in the next few months if one presents itself that we like, but this being said it is a difficult decision and a tough move for many reasons. LA is wonderful and the trip back to Australia is far but easy. I spend a lot of the USA summer in Colorado for the high altitude training and thus LA is a permanent base only for about 9 months of the year. This again makes it hard for the kids.   Anyway I think we have worked it out for now and made the best decision for the next few months. Things will be easier when we finally buy our own home here and can settle into a place of our own instead of a rental place. This is only a few months away and we are looking very hard as we speak. I guess I need to win more events to make the job easier. It will be a tough 6 weeks away from my family but it is for the best for them and thats how we justify it. They leave on May 24 so we still have a few wonderful weeks together before our time apart.

Doping not uncommon among scientists

Since we work on the development and marketing of our new product: the BIEST//BOOSTER we are paying a lot more attention to subjects like doping. Doping is not only an issue among athletes. The specific about sports is as a matter of fact that cheating adds on doping. As biestmilch is a substance used in high performance athletes we are well aware of this perspective of the problem. At this point I don’t want to go into this highly political and controversial subject. I would like to draw your attention to a breaking news published in Nature. The journal cites a poll they had performed among 1400 scientists in 60 countries asking whether they took already once substances known as braindoping like Ritalin or Modasamil. Yes, indeed, one in five admitted the use of these drugs to increase concentration and performance. One quarter of the interviewees takes drugs once a week. Half of them already suffers form withdrawal symptoms like headaches, lack of concentration, panic attacks or trembling. Even though they are not ready to refrain from using these addictive substances. To their opinion it should be on them to decide. Only for kids they recommend prohibition.

Recently, I read about the fact that a high number of students as well is addicted to such performance enhancers. It is not mine to judge, but definitely, we would be happy to see those guys to try our booster, magic stuff and all nature. The Biest//Booster contains the strength and long lasting effectiveness of Biestmilch and a slight boost of the natural caffeine-extract Guarana.

The Next Big Thing: Font-einblendung in Webseiten

Turtle awakes!

Turtle awakes!

Every Spring it is an amazing experience to see this little lady called “Sissi” restarting her life again. 5 months without food and water and still there is some power left in this small body.

Does she remember the day she fell asleep? Did Biestmilch exist at the time when reptiles started their aera?
Time to take a bath and have a little training session to reactivate the muscles.

It’s better to go into a race undertrained than overtrained

While Chris ist getting fit for an again stressful racing season, I want to draw your attention to some health issues that should be taken into consideration, especially if you are not a professional athlete. As an amateur you may be exposed to more stressfactors than a pro. Family and job should not be underestimated in this respect. It is important to be aware of the fact that not only infections are related with a weak or impaired immunity but also injuries. Healing processes are one of the major responsibilities of the immune system. Therefore you have to care for your immune system. As an example, strained muscles and tendonitis are some of the most common injuries for triathletes and people who train for triathlons as a hobby. Adequate rest is important for an endurance athlete. There is a level of training where the perfect balance of diet and exercise can lead to longevity and improvement in one’s immune system and overall health. Too much training can make a body injury-prone and age fast. To find this balance is a tricky process. No general rules are applicable.

Ask Macca he can tell you how long it takes to find out! And he how he found out. May I say one thing in his name – Chris, I hope you don’t mind ;-) – You have to be patient, you should not want to much at a time. To become a solid endurance athlete takes time.

You are here on the BIESTMILCH’s Seven team blog. Chris who is taking biestmilch – an incredible substance to strengthen your immunity – now for 5 years, and is our dear partner. He is going to talk to you about this special substance soon. Stay tuned.
Here one advice that many a professional triathlete may give you (that’s of course easier said than done): Take one day off a week — and that day of the week don’t do anything, just sleep. Sleep is one of the big key factors in letting your body heal.

Building our Triathlon community - St Croix

Building our Triathlon community - St Croix

I first went to St Croix in 2005 for the wonderful race that happens every year on the first week of May. In the past I had always raced the huge Wildflower event in California, but the lure of the US Virgin Islands dragged me out to St Croix in May of 2005. I had the great pleasure of home-staying with Tom Piel and his young son Will, in their beautiful home on the Island.

Tom is one of the most interesting people I have met in my life and we have gone on to be great friends over the years since. We keep in touch and drop each other emails and phone calls a couple of times each year. Will was only a young boy when I first went out to stay with them and was a talented little musician who loved to play the drums and the guitar. We have had some great jams and some great dinners at their home. Julie and Hunt who live next door to Tom are frequent visitors and between these two families they adopt the triathlon community for the week. It is incredible their hospitality and embrace of our sport. Anyway I got this wonderful picture sent from Tom recently that shows Will competing in a few triathlons on the Island. (more…)

Spring is about to begin and sex pollen hedgehop!

A few days ago I noticed a strange objects clinging to a tree. It reminded very much of a pollen, an aggressive one… must be art, I thought, a metaphor for pollen allergies and spring, a rather ridiculous one, I dare to say… It is up to you to judge.

We are not yet sure whether this object is part of an art exhibition, because this lady sex pollen is not the only bizarre thing clinging to a tree in our fuddy-duddy city ;-)
